This RefPack includes the second volume of cartoons from Esquire. To commemorate its first five years in business, Esquire planned an annual gathering together the best cartoons from 1933 to 1937. The book was never published, but Animation Resources was given access to the only remaining prototype of the book.
Also included are two brilliant animated films set to the music of Mozart by Lotte Reiniger. Reiniger’s technique of silhouette animation using jointed paper puppets is rarely used today. But it provides a good model for designing asset based Flash animation.
The Reference Pack features three cartoons from the Terry-Toons studio. Animation histories describe Terry cartoons as all looking basically the same, but nothing could be further from the truth. These three cartoons don’t just look different from each other, the style of the animation changes from scene to scene!
Beginning this time, we are including a bonus download from one of our earlier RefPacks. This time the bonus is a rare industrial film from the Paul Fennell studios. Titled “Charms B.G.”, this sales film in Technicolor was designed by the legendary layout artist, Ed Benedict.

We decided to extend our Members Appreciation bonuses to be able to offer it to attendees at WonderCon. However, we realized that the poor cellular service made it impossible for people to join at the convention itself. Many people at the convention said they planned to join when they returned home afterwards, so we have decided to extend the special membership benefits to Friday to give them a chance to join, log in and download the treasures.
This means that if you aren’t yet a member of Animation Resources, you have a second chance too. Read over the list of benefits below and I think you’ll want to join right away. This puts our Reference Pack releases out of sync by a month, so we are going to make the next one cover April and May. This will take some of the pressure off us in the our busy time in the Spring and will make it so we don’t have to introduce a new Reference Pack right in the middle of the holiday season.
The next Reference Pack will debut on Saturday. You won’t want to miss it. This time there is over 50 minutes of animation, including several rare Terry-Toons, some brilliant silhouette animation by Lotte Reiniger, and an industrial film from the early 40s designed by Ed Benedict. The e-book this time is the second volume in our Esquire cartoons series.
JOIN TODAY and enjoy the embarrassment of riches that Animation Resources members get to download every other month!

This is the best time to join Animation Resources. We are throwing in a bunch of special bonuses this month to make the decision easy for you…
With the reruns in the Reference Packs and the Zim Course, that means that if you join now, you will receive THIRTEEN E-BOOKS and over FIVE HOURS OF RARE ANIMATION… and it’s only $85 a year for General Membership or $60 a year for full time students and educators. That is a drop dead bargain. But the best part is that you’ll be supporting a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is by artists and for artists. If you are a creative person, you should be a member of Animation Resources. You owe it to your muse.
