ANIMATION RESOURCES STUDENT MEMBERSHIP DISCOUNT ENDS SOON!

Art Center

HEADS UP FOR THE ART CENTER STUDENTS WE SPOKE WITH MONDAY NIGHT! Animation Resources’ discounted Student Membership ends this weekend. JOIN NOW if you want to take advantage of the lower price. It’s $50 a year if you join today, and Saturday it will be $60.

CLICK HERE TO JOIN AND GET THE DISCOUNT!

If you’re on the fence about joining, consider this… Animation Resources members have grandfathered in dues rates. That means that student members will continue to pay the rate they joined at for the term of their schooling, and General Members will never have their dues raised as long as they maintain membership. Dues will likely be raised next year, and we have plans to offer MANY more benefits of membership to our members. Those who support us now, will save money on their dues in the future.

Thanks to Ron Carpenter for the great photo from Monday’s event at Art Center!

Animation Resources Members: Reference Pack 019 Is Now Available For Download!

Rackham

Animation Resources Members: A new Reference Pack has just been posted on the members only page. Login and you’ll find some incredible images and animation to inspire you and help you grow as an artist.

This time we have a fabulous e-book packed with high resolution scans of watercolors by Arthur Rackham. Rackham was one of the greatest book illustrators of all time, and we are sharing two of his most famous books with you- Rip Van Winkle and Grimm’s Fairy Tales. These are significant because they are the images that inspired the designers at Disney to create Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Also included in Reference Pack 19 are three very early Betty Boop cartoons with animation by Grim Natwick. Natwick was one of the greatest animators who ever lived and his animation of Betty Boop is a landmark in personality animation.

Rounding out the RefPack are a few films by the Canadian experimental animator, Norman McLaren. McLaren’s films embody the purest form of animation imaginable, completely removed from technique, focusing totally on timing, shape and color.

We hope you find these materials useful in your work. Click on the link to the Members Only page to access the files.

Screening TONIGHT: Action Analysis- Acting for Animation FREE

Acting For Animation

In the ten short years between “Steamboat Willie” and “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” the Disney Studios advanced the art and technique of animation at a rapid rate of speed. This progress has been widely credited to the work of Don Graham. He instituted a series of action analysis meetings where live action films were broken down and studied, and animated films would be critiqued to determine what worked well and what could be improved upon. On November 6th at the Art Center College of Design, Animation Producer Stephen Worth will be channelling the spirit of Don Graham to present an action analysis class on “Acting for Animation”.

This event is absolutely FREE and open to the public.

Presented as a part of Michael Dooley’s “Design History of Comics & Animation” class
